PvP
Contested ground, and the world swings back. Contested ground, one faction per account, and two tracks of progress: Honor to spend, Rank Points to climb, up to Grand Marshal and High Warlord.
The ruleset
What Blizzard says the PvP ruleset is.
Alliance One per account on PvP
Horde One per account on PvP - Every trip into contested territory carries open-world conflict.
- One faction per account: the first PvP character sets the side.
- Faction balance may pause new characters on one side for a while.
- Battlegrounds can include players from other rulesets. Hardcore stays out.
- On a PvP ruleset, enemy players can come upon your camp and disrupt it.
How progression works
Two tracks, from Blizzard's post on PvP progression.
Honor
A currency. Kills, battlegrounds and PvP quests pay it, and it buys the blue PvP set and then the epic one.
Rank Points
Earned in battlegrounds and PvP quests. They move you up the fourteen ranks, and ranks have a weekly cap.
The epic step
An epic piece needs the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, and the seal carries a rank requirement.
Holiday weeks
A battleground on its holiday week pays more Honor and a Rank Point boost. Honor rates across battlegrounds were evened out.
Seasons
Weekly journey tasks pay Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks in a season grant a Legacy Point, and tasks stay available later.
Where to look
Character pane, Player vs. Player tab.
Ranks and rewards
Fourteen ranks a side. The original titles return; the last is Grand Marshal or High Warlord. The reward column is Blizzard's list.

From the development notes
- Honor cap raised from 15,000 to 25,000.
- Honor costs of PvP gear and tokens up by about half.
- Marks of Honor stack to 30.
- Critical strikes keep their full effect in PvP.
The gear
Rank gear is in the armory under the rank names. New pieces fill the old gaps, such as Shaman healer, melee and caster sets.
